But while you are here:The Central Chapter of SEBA hosted a Workshop on Jamming Techniques a the Emory Presbyterian Church on July 11, 2010. Here's what John Miller (Central Chapter Vice-President in Charge of Everything) had to say about the Workshop: Mr. Jim Culliton is one whizz bang workshop leader. Yesterday we had upwards of two dozen plus his co-teacher folk for the workshop, then we had more than 40 pickin and pluckin and fiddlin and twangin and thumpin for the next three hours. Mr. Jim was joined by Mr. Michael Smith from Dappled Grays on Mandolin, Mr. Greg Carageorge on String Bass, and the incredible Mr. Walter Dean on Dobro. Mr. David videotaped the workshop part (see below). By all accounts the workshop was a huge hit.Spinning out the various jam groups worked out real well. We had good luck with the sloe jamb which included beginners along with more experienced players, then there was a kinda medium jam with a lot of old-time mixed in with some newer stuff, and the professionals congregated in a side room which fairly exploded with hot licks and a bunch of that chromatic stuff that the rest of us only can dream about. We didn't sell nothing this month nor am I aware of any new memberships but all this is because we had our attention focused on "Remington Ride" and "Gold Rush". I'm hoping sometime in the future we learn "Sal's Got A Meatskin" as it is a personal favorite. As far as I'm concerned the best part was Mr. JR joining in with his banjo. He is really coming along. But we missed the Gatekeeper as he is in Croatia having a large time and hopefully introducing them to hot bluegrass and we also missed our buckdancer who we can only assume is back in the Virginia mountains with some of her other friends. We'll be glad to have them both back next month.Miz Dona has taken charge of the food arrangements and brought some most wonderful cookies and libation plus SEBA El Jefe Grande Mr. Chollie Robinson flopped down dip and chips which was devoured and the ladies from Emory Presbyterian gave us some fresh fruit and muffins so didn't nobody leave there hongry. Miz Rebecca has accepted the task of making sure our yard signs are posted. Seems like folk just want to pitch in and cause this pickin experience to be joyful and for all of them we give thanks. And it was great to see Mr. Dan from Mayretta and Mr. Preston from Fateville join in. Mr. Dan's talking up a SEBA-wide camping extravaganza up Rockmart way where we sleep under the stars and play all night and if you don't want to camp you can just show up during the day and still play all night and such. We're trying to line up a local band for a set or two in August here at SEBA Central so stay tuned you never know what'll happen next. Please plan to join us August 8 from 3-6pm for our next get-together. We'll miss you if you're not there. And if you have any idears for anything special you'd like to see at a future SEBA Central Pluck-A-Thon please lemme know. Nobody's told me any rules yet so I think we can undertake what we'll call experimental bluegrass as long as it's not too illegal or doesn't involve tobacco products since we're mostly inside a building with air conditioning at least until it cools off some.
